The humble piece of toast is making a well deserved comeback. This reliable staple often relegated to a slather of butter with a basic spread in the rush of breakfast is having a gourmet moment- and we love it! Here are our tips that will hopefully have you toasting all day long.

1) Experiment with breads

At the core of any good toast creation is the bread selection. With an array of breads out there, we encourage you to experiment with not only taste but having a go at baking a loaf yourself.  There are few things more satisfying than creating a Sourdough Loaf from scratch. We have a range of recipes from a Soy Linseed and Barley Bread to a fancy Fruit & Nut Brioche.  Plus you don’t need to worry about the shape of your loaf as we have created our new 4-Slice toaster with extra long and wide slots to accommodate breads of all sizes!

2) Better your butter

When you think bread, you think butter - but should you? Sometimes there is nothing better than a salty plain butter oozing into crunchy toast, but at the moment we are in love with creating our own flavoured butters in the KitchenAid Stand Mixer including tangy Lemon Butter, flavoursome herb butters and this decadent Salted Maple Butter. It goes further than just butter though; we are rethinking our base using ricotta, goat’s cheese, homemade hommus, rocket pesto, mango chutney and even broccoli mousse!

3) Don’t just think breakfast

Why should breakfast get all the glory? Make your toast work harder and keep you feeling full by adding a protein or filling that can turn it from a snack into a substantial meal. Whether this is salmon, poached chicken, tuna, eggs or mushrooms there is no reason why the flavours and ingredients you use in your favourite pasta dish or stir fry can’t be transitioned to toast.  Dinner toast recipes that we love are Half Baked Harvest’s Buttered Mushroom, Sage Pesto and Goats Cheese Sourdough, What Gaby’s Cooking’s Arugula Pesto Turkey Tartine and The Balance’s Minty Pea Smash Tumeric Chicken.

4) Roast and Toast

A little bit of preparation can go a long way with lifting your toast game. One of our favourite things to put on toast is leftovers particularly of the roasted vegetable type! Anything from Pumpkin Crostini with Sage and Balsamic Vinegar to Smitten Kitten’s Eggplant Salad Toast and Jelly Toast’s Summer Squash Tartine.  When it’s not leftover roasts we are having meaty Bolognese sauces with grilled cheese and our favourite curries with chutney all served on perfectly cooked toast.

5) Get Fruity

Fruit and toast don’t pop to mind as ingredients that should work together but trust us they do! Not only great for breakfast, the candy flavour of fruit can make for the perfect afternoon treat or a healthier dessert option. Keep it all sweet like Taste Lovely’s Roasted Cranberry and Orange Crostini or mix up your flavours with Caramelized Pear Brie and Honey or a Fig and Prosciutto combination.

We use the KitchenAid Spiralizer Attachment to create this easy but Instagram worthy Pear and Ricotta Toast.

6) Know your toaster

Making toast should be easy. That’s why at KitchenAid we have created a range of toasters that do all the hard work for you. The KitchenAid 4-Slice Long Slot Toaster is perfect for breads of all sizes and features an Extra Lift Leaver to easily remove smaller slices and a Peek & See mode which allows for easy monitoring of the toasting progress. The Artisan 2-Slice Toaster has a motorised lift button that gently raises your bread, a keep warm function and an LCD display that keeps track of your personal settings, so you can enjoy your toast the way you like it, every morning!
