Extremely well designed and made.
I have drawers full of kitchen hand utensils, many spoons, ladles, spatulas etc. Most people have multiples of each. Why do I need multiple versions of each—well, I see another spatula in the store and it looks better than the other three I have at home; so I buy a fourth—hey, they all work! And then over time, the chrome plating begins to come off, the handle can’t take the rough and tumble of the dish washer and get bent, nicked, discoloured etc. I call it utensil inflation, the drawer fills up, but I’ll still rummage in the drawer looking for the newest and straightest one.
While looking through the Kitchenaid utensils web site, I noticed a turner and spoon in stainless steel. They looked much more robust, made entirely of stainless steel, so I bought them. Gracious me, I am impressed; and in this case impressed is the correct word. In the hand, this looks and feels a substantial kitchen tool; much more substantial than all the rest in my drawer. So retrieving my machinist callipers, this thing measures 2mm thick! They are very strong and stiff, not easily bent. So I bought the whole range of six utensils. This includes a solid turner, slotted turner, pasta fork, ladle, strainer and a spoon.
What can I do with these better than before? The turners can be used to scrape heavy bolognese stuck on a pots bottom, it will not bend or be difficult to handle. Use the spoon to scoop ice cream for serving, and you can push as hard as needed. Use the turners to scrape fond (brown good stuff left in the bottom on pans), lift a roast or chicken. For everyday stirring, lifting and spooning and scraping, they work like my other tools.
However, after their 10,000th trip through your dishwasher, they will perform just as well as the day you bought them. Like their stand mixers, these Kitchenaid stainless steel utensils can be handed down to your grandchildren.
