Great while it still works
We loved our KMT223 toaster which we bought 3 years ago. However, just a bit out of warranty, it started misbehaving, turning on at random, and popping down and up constantly. No thanks to KitchenAid who refused to even discuss the possibility of a replacement or repair. The toaster is still in immaculate condition apart from what I assume would be an easily repaired fault.
The reason I got to lodge this review is that we like the toaster so much that we went and bought a new one.
So thumbs up to the design, but thumbs right down for the company approach to standing behind the product.

I love this toaster !
I bought this toaster 1 month ago. The Empire Red colour is fantastic and matches our kettle and microwave. We love the browning / duration setting. We get perfect toast every time - way better than our previous toaster. Crisp on both sides! There is even a crumpet setting which works well too. I love how the toaster gently supports the bread as it lowers for cooking. This ensures the bread never gets caught in the sides. It also beeps when ready. The blue control lighting is stylish and looks cool. Also the extra length of electric cord simply wraps under the base very neatly. High quality construction. Thanks Kitchenaid.

Automated movement and sound on complete
The design of this toaster is excellent. There are no levers that can cause breakage, instead when the button is pressed the bread lowers into the toasting position and then raises on completeion with a beep to advise that the process is complete. The bad thing is that this automated lowering function broke within 2 years rendering the machine useless and not repairable. Given that this toaster is priced many times the cost of a manual machine with no additonal lifespan renders the purchase unsustainable. The manufacturer needs to improve the construction quality. I cannot reccommend this machine for this reason.

2 slice artisan automatic toaster
This is the best toaster I have ever used. It automatically pulls the bread in and pops it out. I normally toast white bread on setting 4 and its so perfect and even. Sourdough and olive bread is perfect on 7 as these types of bread have more moisture. It has a really wide slot so I have had no problem with bagels, pide, artisan bread and raisin toast.
My old toaster wasnt wide enough and when the bread came into contact with the coils it would short circuit the house! I love the kitchenaid toaster because its wide enough and well designed so it never does what my old toaster did and it cooks evenly.

Good features, but does it toast properly?
We've had our KMT223 for a week and can't say we are wrapt in it.
The power-operated lowering of the toast impresses, along with the arms that grab the slice and hold it still, thus preventing blockages.
Not so impressive is the toast colouring control, in that it doesn't move progressively ie, it has a click arrangement, say, No2 to No3, which then can burn the toast, whereas a position in between would suffice.
We find, too, that the toast is not cooked evenly on both sides, replicating the crumpet setting, which isn't engaged. And the elements aren't burning uniformally, with the middle elements brighter than those on the edges.
Altogether, a disappointing purchase, especially considering its high price.

Minus 1 star for the unnecessary BEEP!
I really appreciate the adjustable toasting options (according to thickness of bread/crumpet), and the semi automatic lowering/raising of the toast (almost as good as my awesome and only recently retired/still working/played forward 1960s Sunbeam Toastermatic), and so far this toaster is operating brilliantly and toasting perfectly, but that BEEP! Toasting is usually done early morning, and BEEP (twice) is not welcome in a shared household. Nor necessary. This toaster is made in China, not USA as reported by a previous reviewer. With its high price point, my hope is that it will last as long as my retired Sunbeam Toastermatic. I don't mind paying more to avoid adding to landfill.

Stunning design; slick performance
My husband has lusted after a Kitchenaid toaster since a weekend away in a cottage with a gourmet kitchen. His recent birthday provided the perfect excuse and he is delighted with his new gift. This toaster is beautiful at rest, but also creates perfect, evenly browned, thick hand-cut toast and crumpets daily. He has a new morning love and the coffee machine is trying not to be jealous!

Tripping our power circuit.
I am so disappointed with Kitchen aid!!
I bought the coffee machine and LOVED it until it dispersed more water through the back than the fron
The toaster, well; this is the second toaster of the same model We have purchased within a year! (The first, we lost the receipt when moving house) Both tosters started tripping the power circuit every time we used it. Never again - pulled the good old delonghi out of storage.
