Can I blend hot soup?
If using a KitchenAid Diamond Blender, you can blend hot foods or liquids as follows:
- First, be sure that the lid is securely in place
- Use only the HOT FOODS function
- The HOT FOODS feature starts at a low speed and slowly ramps up to higher speeds over 90 seconds to avoid splashing of hot liquids
If using an Artisan Blender, Classic Blender or Platinum Blender please follow these recommendations:
- Cool hot foods if possible before blending
- Remove the centre ingredient cap before blending warm or hot liquids
- Blend the ingredients using the Stir setting only
- Increase speed gradually, if necessary
Is the KSB560 Plastic Jug BPA-Free?
What is the Soft Start™ feature?
The Soft Start blending feature is used to help prevent ingredients from splattering at the beginning of the blending cycle. Regardless of the speed chosen, the blender starts at a lower speed to begin the blending process, then quickly moves up to the chosen speed.
What should I do if I overload the KitchenAid Blender?
Typically the Blender is overloaded when blending heavy ingredients. In the event the blender is overloaded the motor will automatically shut-off to prevent motor damage. Should this occur, all indicator lights will all flash at the same time.
To reset the blender turn off the Blender. Allow 20 minutes for the Blender to cool and restart. To prevent the blender from being overloaded mix the ingredients in smaller batches or add additional liquid to reduce the load on the Blender motor.
NOTE: When blending chunky items, start by selecting the Pulse button or the Ice Crush button. This will cause the heavier ingredients to fall down into the jug so the heavier ingredients can be to be fully impacted by the blades. Once all the ingredients are mixing slowly move to higher speeds. This will give a much smoother result in less time, while putting less stress on the blender motor.
Where are KitchenAid Blenders manufactured?
Artisan and Platinum Blenders are assembled in the USA.

What is Externally Adjustable Slicing Control?
KitchenAid’s exclusive externally adjustable slicing disc allows you to adjust slicing thickness from thin to thick, without having to remove the blade assembly. With the slicing disc installed, simply slide the Slicing Thickness Control to the desired setting – no need to remove the cover or even turn off the Food Processor. Disc is adjustable from approximately 1 mm to 6 mm for slicing most foods.
How do I adjust the thickness?
Simply set the desired slicing thickness by moving the lever to the left for thinner slices or to the right for thicker slices.
What are the speed selections for the ExactSlice™ Food Processor and Pro Line Series Food Processor?
Two speeds (Speed 1 & 2) and Pulse provide precise control to give great results with most any food.
Are optional accessories available for the Food Processor?
Yes, optional accessories are available for various models. For a list of optional accessories, visit the Food Processors section, select your product, and view the "Accessories" section.
Why is liquid leaking from my Food Processor work bowl?
It is important that the Food Processor’s Work Bowl is not filled above the maximum liquid level. Filling the work bowl over the maximum liquid level will cause the liquid to go under the blade and out onto the base of the unit. On some models there is a line on the work bowl to indicate the maximum level of liquid that can be processed by the Food Processor.
Liquids should only be processed with the Multipurpose Blade. The Egg Whip should only be used to whip egg whites and cream.
Important: If the recipe has high liquid content it is recommended to use the pulsing method to avoid excess leakage.
How do I process meat in the Food Processor?
With meat and cheese it is recommended you lightly freeze or at least well chill the meat / fish / chicken first.
What is the Chef’s Bowl used for on the Artisan KFPM770 Processor?
The Chef’s Bowl is an additional bowl used for operating the slicing and shredding discs. Please do not use the multipurpose or dough blade with the Chef’s Bowl as the blades will damage the bowl.
Where should I store the Food Pusher?
To prevent damage to the interlock system, always store the food pusher outside of the chute when not in use. Additionally, always store the bowl and lid in an unlocked position so that the activation pins are not engaged. Storing your machine with the food pusher in the chute, and the bowl and lid locked into place means that the interlocking system is constantly engaged and this can wear away over time.

When do I need to charge the battery for the Pro Line Series Hand Blender?
Important: New batteries must be charged before first use. Remove the battery from the KitchenAid cordless appliance for charging when convenient for you, anytime battery indicator lights show less than 25% battery life remaining (ie. only one light remaining in the battery indicator bar), or when battery has been completely drained.
Batteries do not develop a memory when charged after only a partial discharge. It is not necessary to run down the battery before placing it on the charger.
- Use the charge indicator bar on the KitchenAid cordless appliance to determine when to charge your Lithium-Ion battery.
- You can top-up your battery s charge before starting a long session of use.
- Charge the battery as needed. The only time it is necessary to charge the Lithium-Ion battery is when the battery has reached the end of its charge. To signal the end of the charge, the KitchenAid Cordless appliance will no longer display any lights in the battery indicator bar after the unit is unlocked or the battery is first inserted into the cordless appliance.
How do I charge the battery for the Pro Line Series Hand Blender?
Align the flat side of the battery with the flat side of the portal in the bay and slide the battery into the charger as far as possible. The charging indicator light will come on, and will either flash slowly (battery is charging), flash rapidly in three (3) consecutive repeating bursts (battery error), or light will remain continuously on (battery is fully charged and is ready for use).
- A fully discharged battery with an internal temperature in the normal range (between 0 C and 60 C) will charge in about 3 hours. Frequently used batteries may take longer to charge completely.
- After charging is complete, a continuous light will display.
- The charger will keep the battery fully charged if it is left on the charger.

Does mixing time need to be adjusted when using the Hand Mixer?
The KitchenAid Hand Mixer will beat faster and more thoroughly than most other electric hand mixers. Therefore, the beating time in most recipes must be adjusted to avoid over beating. Beating time is faster due to larger beater sizes.
To select speeds, please refer to the Speed Control Guide in the User Guide. Never overbeat, check mixture regularly for the desired consistency.
When comparing Hand Mixers, is wattage the best indicator for performance?
When comparing hand mixers, wattage is not always the best indicator of performance. Most hand mixers have an AC (alternating current) motor, while KitchenAid hand mixers have been designed with a DC (direct current) motor.
DC motors have these distinct advantages:
- Uses electricity more efficiently than a comparable AC motor.
- Uses less electricity which requires less wattage.
- Are more powerful, weigh less, and are quieter than a comparable AC motor.

KitchenAid Stand Mixers
What is Original Planetary Mixing Action?
Original planetary mixing action describes the way in which the flat beater moves around the bowl. During operation, the beater moves around the stationary bowl, at the same time turning in the opposite direction on its own axis.
Original planetary mixing action ensures thorough ingredient incorporation. The beater, dough hook or wire whisk rotates around the bowl, giving incredible bowl coverage for fast and complete mixing.
Your KitchenAid Mixer will mix faster and more thoroughly than most other electric mixers. Therefore, the mixing time in most recipes must be adjusted to avoid overbeating.
What is the difference between the Stand Mixer and the Food Processor?
Both the Stand Mixer and Food Processor have their place in your kitchen. The KitchenAid Stand Mixer has variable speeds which are great for whisking eggs, making delicate batters and whipping creams and for heavier mixtures such as dough for pasta and bread. A range of attachments allow for the grinding of grains and meat and slicing vegetables.
The KitchenAid Food Processor is a fast, robust and a large chopper, slicer, and shredder. It is all about the speed. The food processor is great for chopping and slicing fruit and vegetables, herbs, chilled meats, as well as blending your ingredients. You can even quickly make sauces and cakes.
Where are Stand Mixers manufactured?
KitchenAid Stand Mixers have been manufactured in Greenville, Ohio USA since the end of the Second World War.
What is the attachment hub?
The KitchenAid Stand Mixer is more than just a mixer. The trademark hub allows for the attachment of over a dozen accessories which will turn your mixer into a pasta machine, citrus juicer, meat grinder, ice cream machine, vegetable slicer, sausage maker and so much more.
View the full range of KitchenAid Stand Mixer attachments.
What speed should I use?
Speed Control Guide – 10 Speed Mixers
All speeds have the Soft Start™ feature which automatically starts the Stand Mixer at a lower speed to help prevent ingredient splash-out and “flour puff” at start-up then quickly increases to the selected speed for optimal performance.
SPEED 1 - STIR - For slow stirring, combining, mashing, starting all mixing procedures. Use to add
flour and dry ingredients to batter, and add liquids to dry ingredients. Use Speed 1 to combine yeast dough.
SPEED 2 - SLOW MIXING - For slow mixing, mashing, faster stirring. Use to mix and knead yeast
doughs, heavy batters and candies, start mashing potatoes or other vegetables, cut shortening into
flour, mix thin or splashy batters. For heavy mixtures , please do not exceed Speed 2. For heavy loads, use a slow speed, no longer than 5 minutes.
SPEED 4 - MIXING, BEATING - For mixing semi-heavy batters, such as cookies. Use to combine
sugar and shortening and to add sugar to egg whites for meringues. Medium speed for cake mixes.
Use with: Food Grinder, Rotor Slicer/Shredder, Pasta Roller, and Fruit/Vegetable Strainer.
SPEED 6 - BEATING, CREAMING - For medium fast beating (creaming) or whipping. Use to finish mixing cake, doughnut, and other batters. High speed for cake mixes. Use with Citrus Juicer attachment.
SPEED 8 - FAST BEATING, WHIPPING - for whipping cream, egg whites, and boiled frostings.
SPEED 10 - FAST WHIPPING - For whipping small amounts of cream, egg whites or for final whipping of mashed potatoes.
- Will not maintain fast speeds under heavy loads, such as when using the Pasta Maker.
- Do not exceed Speed 2 when preparing yeast doughs as this may cause damage to the Stand Mixer and fuse gear.
What are the standard inclusions with a Stand Mixer?
Standard inclusions do vary between Stand Mixers. View the Stand Mixer range here, and select the "Standard Inclusions" section to learn more.
What are the different uses for the flat beater, flex edge beater, wire whisk and dough hook?
The Flat Beater is the ‘wooden spoon’ of the KitchenAid Stand Mixer. It is used for any gentle folding, slow and fast mixing, cutting/rubbing in, creaming or beating, such as creaming butter and sugar, creaming egg yolks and sugar, combining flour mixtures, combining all-in-one cake and batters or gentle folding, ‘rubbing in’ shortening for pastry, beating of soft fruits and vegetables (rough dip or sauces) and combining dough/pasta mixtures before kneading.
The Flex Edge Beater is a flat beater and spatula combined. It is used for creaming and beating; its action mixes/ creams and wipes the sides of the bowl (i.e. creaming butter and sugar, combining cake and batter mixtures).
The Wire Whisk is used for aeration and is suitable for whipping mixtures where aeration is required (i.e. egg whites for meringues and mousse mixtures, creaming of egg yolk and sugar mixtures, whipping cream). It is also suitable for ‘sifting’ flour and icing sugar. Hand wash only.
The Dough Hook is for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. Great for heavy mixtures such as bread, pizza and pasta dough. Designed for speed 1 and 2 only.
What is the purpose of the pouring shield?
The pouring shield minimises splash and flour puff as well as making adding liquids easy through the use of the chute.
Note: The pouring shield is not suitable for the glass bowl.
What is the benefit of a glass bowl?
The benefits of a glass bowl
- Easy-to-read ingredient quantities on the marked bowl – has standard and metric measurements moulded into the side.
- A silicone lid can be placed on the bowl when proving dough. It also helps keep the bowl clean when the stand mixer is not in use (note: lid available when bowl is purchased as a separate accessory. Platinum Stand Mixer glass bowl does not include lid).
- Made of tempered glass.
- Dishwasher, freezer and microwave-safe.
- Moulded pouring spout makes pouring batters easy, minimising spills and drips.
- Glass retains an even temperature (creaming of butter and sugar in winter is easier).
- You can see the mixture / batter / dough from all angles.
- Easy-hold handle.
Tips for Use
- Remove the thread ring before using the bowl in the microwave.
- To avoid product damage, do not use the glass bowl in areas of high heat such as an oven or stove top.
What is the benefit of stainless steel bowl?
The benefits of a stainless steel bowl
- Remains cool during beating, keeps mixtures cool, good when used in warm climates as it helps prevent splitting and curdling.
- Assists in optimum volume with egg whites for meringues and mousses, etc.
- Lightweight and durable.
- Won’t crack or chip.
- Bowl can be warmed over a flame – this is common practice in commercial kitchens.
- Buffing and polishing is easy with a soft cloth and hot water.
- Winter temperatures will chill the bowl, making creaming initially difficult for the home cook, but this is a huge plus for hot weather.
- Egg whites beaten in a stainless steel bowl are quicker to beat into a fluffier looking, firmer meringue (approximately 5 minutes). Using a glass bowl takes approximately 8 minutes. Both bowls produce good quality meringue, however.
In winter months when creaming butter and sugar, pre-warm the stainless steel bowl in warm/hot water.
What is the Flex Edge Beater?
Mix with the best! The Flex Edge Beater is used normal to heavy mixtures such as cakes, frostings, cookies and mashed potatoes. The flexible edge design guarantees faster mixing, plus you won’t need to scrape the side of the bowl with a spatula, making clean-up so much easier. Coated metal with silicone side. Dishwasher-safe..
Learn more about the Flex Edge Beater here.
What is the capacity for the KSM150, KSM156 and KSM160 Stand Mixer?
Minimum capacity - 1 egg white.
Maximum kneading capacity - yeast dough up to a total mixed weight of 1.15kg (2 x 450g loaves).
What is the capacity of the Artisan KPM5 Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer?
Minimum capacity - 1 egg white.
Maximum kneading capacity - yeast dough up to a total mixed weight of 1.7kg (3 x 450g loaves).
What is the capacity of the 6.9L Pro Line Series Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer?
Why is it recommended to decrease the mixing time when using the KitchenAid Stand Mixer?
Listed are several reasons for reducing mixing times:
- The planetary mixing action on the KitchenAid mixer allows the mixer to mix more efficiently.
- The mixing action spins the beater clockwise and the shaft turns counter clockwise.
- If the recipe has not been adapted for the KitchenAid mixer then we recommend cutting your mixing time in half.
- The Use and Care Guide include recommended times and speeds as well as additional information regarding the beaters and their uses.
- When kneading dough you should not knead over 5 minutes and always use speed 2 only. Using a higher or lower speed is harder on your mixer motor, which will result with damage to your mixer.
What is the height of the Tilt-Head Stand Mixer with the head tilted back?
At the highest point the tilt head stand mixer measures 46cm off the bench.
How long can I run the Stand Mixer?
The length of time to operate the Stand Mixer depends on the size of the load and the speed being used. For heavy loads, use a slow speed, no longer than 5 minutes.
When kneading bread dough or pasta dough, run the Stand Mixer 3-5 minutes. The bread dough will be processed well before that time. Please do not exceed speed 2. We recommend that you review the Use and Care Guide for a list of speeds and reading other recipes that may be similar for recommended speeds and mixing times.
Do I need to rest the Stand Mixer after each batch using the Gourmet Pasta Press?
The Stand Mixer should be rested at least 1 hour after extruding 2 consecutive pasta dough recipes.
How do I adjust the beater-to-bowl clearance on a KitchenAid Stand Mixer
Do you feel that sometimes your attachments are too close, or too far away from the bottom and sides of your bowl? This might be due to the beater-to-bowl clearance changing over time.
Attach the flat beater and mixing bowl and lower the tilt head of your KitchenAid Stand Mixer. Fold a standard envelope in half. The envelope should just slide underneath the beater – this is the perfect place for the beater to sit in the bowl, it is approximately 1mm from the bottom of the bowl.
Tilt the mixer head back and locate the adjustment screw in the neck of the machine. You will need a flat screwdriver to make the adjustment. To lift the beater, or raise the clearance, turn the screw anti-clockwise a quarter of a turn (repeat if necessary). To lower the beater, turn the screw clockwise a quarter of a turn (repeat if necessary).
Then reattach the flat beater and bowl and re-test with the envelope.
Can I place the wire whisk in the dishwasher?
No, the wire whisk is not suitable for the dishwasher, please handwash.
Can I place the glass mixer bowl in the microwave?
The Glass Bowl can be used in the microwave. However, before placing the bowl in the microwave, please remove the grey plastic thread ring on the bottom of the bowl.
Follow these steps to remove the thread ring from the Glass Bowl.
- Turn the bowl over.
- Rotate the thread ring counterclockwise until it is removed.
- If the thread ring is too tight, place the bowl back into the bowl clamping plate and turn the bowl counterclockwise until the thread ring is loose.
Note: To avoid product damage, do not use the glass bowl in areas of high heat such as on a stovetop, cooktop or in an oven.

KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker
Where can I purchase SodaStream flavours for the Sparkling Beverage Maker?
There are over 40 SodaStream flavours to choose from. All SodaStream flavours, including SodaStream Caps® and Sodamix can be added to the sparkling water in the carbonating bottles after using the Sparkling Beverage Maker. See the available flavours on the SodaStream website.
Can I carbonate drinks other than water? Can I re-fizz flat drinks?
No. Only water should be carbonated. You risk damaging the Sparkling Beverage Maker and making a bubbly mess, and the warranty is invalidated once you use any other liquid other than plain water. Stick with chilled water and adding the wide range of fantastic flavours after carbonation.
What is the flavour ratio?
With our SodaStream Caps, it’s simply one cap to a 1 Litre bottle of carbonated water. With the Flavour bottles, the lids of the bottles have two fill lines etched into the inside. Our recommendation for a 1 litre bottle is to fill the lid to the top fill line for the ideal flavour. The lower fill line is for 500ml Bottles. For more information on flavours, please click here.
Are batteries included?
3 AAA batteries are included to operate CO2 Carbonation Gauge. To replace batteries, please see the “Care and cleaning” section on page 9 of the user guide.
Do I need a special water system in order to use my Sparkling Beverage Maker?
No, the Sparkling Beverage Maker uses any type of plain water that you typically drink at home. However, CHILLED water makes better sparkling drinks, so we strongly recommend that you refrigerate water prior to use. Consider keeping a few spare bottles of water in the fridge so that you're ready to make great-tasting sparkling drinks whenever you desire.
Can I add the flavour before carbonating a bottle of water?
No. Doing so will risk damaging the Sparkling Beverage Maker (as well as invalidating your warranty). Adding flavour before carbonating a drink can cause the bubbles to overflow, so always fizz the water first, then add your favourite flavour.
When I carbonate my drink I notice there is a build-up of ice around the nozzle, what should I do?
This might happen when carbonating very cold water. If this happens, shorten the time of each press until the ice stops appearing or it can affect the carbonation. Any ice created will simply melt.
What kind of power source does the Sparkling Beverage Maker use?
The KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker operates without batteries, electricity or plumbing which making them an energy-efficient home appliance and an ideal accessory to take on the road in your caravan or onboard your boat. The carbonation in your soda is purely a result of the compressed gas stored in the SodaStream carbonator.
How should the cylinder be stored?
The SodaStream cylinders contain carbon dioxide (CO2). Compressed gas has a tendency to expand when it is exposed to a source of heat for prolonged periods of time. Therefore the cylinder must not be exposed to sources of heat such as travel in a hot car, or placed right next a heat source such as an oven, stove or fireplace. It is important to always store the cylinder in a cool and dry environment. Each cylinder is fitted with a unique safety valve, which will safely release the gas in the unlikely event the pressure in the cylinder rise.
How many bottles will I get from one gas cylinder?
The KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker only fits at 60L cylinder. A 60L cylinder can make up to 60 one litre bottles, however it does depend on how much gas you are adding to your water.
Please note: We recommend that you keep a spare cylinder in the cupboard so that when the cylinder runs out you simply swap the cylinders and keep making sparkling water, and return the empty cylinder as you purchase your next gas refill.
Can a different company’s bottles be used?
The KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker is only compatible with the bottle supplied with the KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker or 0.5L and 1L SodaStream bottles in the original bottle shape. It is not compatible with 1L SodaStream FUSE, SOURCE bottles or 1L SodaStream Glass Carafes. To locate additional bottles, please contact your KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker retailer in the first instance or alternatively visit www.sodastream.com.au
How do I clean the carbonating bottle?
Never wash the carbonating bottle in the dishwasher or otherwise expose it to heat above 49°c or extreme cold below 1°c. This will compromise the structure and strength of the bottle and cause product damage. If desired, rinse carbonating bottles with cold or lukewarm water, but never rinse with hot water. If needed, use a mild hand dishwashing liquid and a soft-bristled brush to clean. A small amount of lemon juice can be used to remove stains and odour. Please avoid using abrasive cloths (as you might scratch your bottles).
Can I place my carbonating bottle in the freezer?
No, please do not place the bottle in the freezer. This will compromise the structure and strength of the bottle and cause product damage.
I have accidentally placed my carbonating bottle in the dishwasher, what should I do? If
If carbonating bottles are mistakenly washed in the dishwasher, please do not use them. Throw them away. Using bottles that have been washed in the dishwasher or bottles that are scratched, worn, discoloured or damaged in any way may result in serious personal injury.
How do I fit the CO2 cylinder into my KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker?
For instructions on how to fit the CO2 cylinder, please refer to page 7 of the Use & Care Guide included with your Sparkling Beverage Maker.
You can also access the Use & Care Guide here.
How does the CO2 Cylinder Exchange System work?
When you purchase your KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker, a full CO2 gas cylinder is included. With the KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker, you receive a one-off user licence (on page 5 of your Use & Care Guide) which entitles you to use the gas cylinder through the life of your Sparkling Beverage Maker. When the gas in the cylinder is used up, simply exchange the empty cylinder for a full one, paying only the cost of the gas refill and the cylinder deposit.
For more information on how the CO2 Cylinder Exchange System works, please visit here, or contact SodaStream Australia on 1300 763 278 or SodaStream New Zealand on 0800 232 633.
How do I exchange an empty Gas Cylinder for a new one?
Contact your KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker retailer in the first instance. If they are not a participating SodaStream cylinder stockist, you can find the closest one to you here for Australia, and here for New Zealand.
You only pay for the gas. You may also like to buy a spare cylinder to use while you are refilling your first cylinder.
Please note: Some stores from major chains may not stock the full range or any of the SodaStream range - best to call the store ahead if you are travelling a distance.
Can a different company’s gas cylinders be used in my KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker?
Only SodaStream branded cylinders should be used with your KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker. Only SodaStream cylinders carrying identification and a nylon shrink wrap bearing the Soda-Club or SodaStream brand name should be used.
Why does the carbonating bottle have an expiration date?
Since the carbonating bottles have to withstand continuous carbonation under pressure, they will need to be replaced according to the expiration date on the carbonating bottle. DO NOT use bottles after their expiration date. The carbonating bottle must also be replaced if put in the dishwasher, placed in the freezer, exposed to a heat source, or have become scratched.
Is the carbonating bottle supplied with the KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker BPA-Free?
Yes, the carbonating bottle supplied with the KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker is BPA-Free. MSDS sheets and certificates of supplier conformity are available upon request.
How much water do I add to the carbonating bottle?
When carbonating, it is most ideal to fill the Bottle to the fill line with cold water (we recommend having the water pre-chilled). If the water level is below the fill line, the carbonating nozzle may not be able to infuse enough gas into the water. If above the fill line, there may be overflow.
My sparkling drink is not flavourful enough, can I re-carbonate after adding the flavour?
Please do not re-carbonate after adding the flavour. Just add more flavour to taste
My drink isn’t fizzy enough, what should I do?
- If you have not yet added flavour, try to carbonate to a higher carbonation level.
- Check the CO2 Cylinder. You might be out of CO2.
- Make sure that you are carbonating chilled water.
Does my SodaStream make mineral water? What is the difference between sparkling water, soda water and mineral water?
Sparkling water/Soda water is a blanket term for water that contains carbon dioxide or hydrogen sulfide gas, whether naturally occurring, or injected on purpose to create an effervescent drink. Sparkling water is more commonly lightly fizzier then soda water.
Mineral water is water from a mineral spring that contains various minerals, such as salts and sulfur compounds. Mineral water may be effervescent ("sparkling") due to contained gases. These dissolved minerals give the water a subtle flavour.
Soda water is carbonated water which carbon dioxide gas under pressure has been dissolved. This process is known as carbonation.
The main difference between these fizzy waters is taste. They all have no calories and the subtle difference in mineral content.
