Katherine Sabbath’s baking skills are so incredible her creations can only be described as pieces of art. What started as a side hobby to her high school teaching job has catapulted into a full time career with Katherine’s amazing creations regularly being seen by her 205,000 Instagram followers.
KitchenAid has enjoyed working with Katherine at both the Sydney and Melbourne Cake Bake and Sweets Shows and thanks to Kitchen Warehouse we can now share with you Katherine’s top baking tips!
1. Be prepared.
Baking is meant to be enjoyable and relaxing. To make sure your baking endeavours are stress-free, make a list of what you need before you start to ensure everything is on hand and you don’t have to make a last minute dash to the supermarket.
If your recipe involves multiple steps such as baking, frosting and decorating, a timeline can be a really useful tool to ensure you’ve given yourself enough time to do each part and that more importantly; you can enjoy the process of creating something deliciously special!
2. Have the best equipment and tools for the job!
My beautiful KitchenAid Stand Mixer makes the job of quickly and effortlessly whipping Swiss meringue buttercream a total dream!
Also, a trusty spatula and cake turn table will save both your time and your sanity when it comes to frosting a cake – I don’t know how I ever lived without them! Let the motion of the turntable frost the cake for you by simply holding your spatula against the cake and rotating the turntable. Easy and makes for an even finish as well.
3. Taste as you go! Flavour is King in the kitchen.
This shouldn’t be a hard rule to follow, but a good chef always tastes and enjoys their food. Even if you are following a recipe, someone else’s taste might not be exactly to your liking. A little taste here and there to ensure your cake or buttercream isn’t too sweet will guarantee you get a delicious result every time!
